Activia Yogurt Brigade Saves 500,000 Empty Yogurt Pots From UK Landfill
The Activia Yogurt Brigade are celebrating after reaching the 500,000 milestone of recycling Danone Activia and Shape yogurt pots in to new products, saving them from UK landfill.
The Activia Yogurt Brigade is a recycling fundraising scheme, which was launched in the UK in September 2010 with TerraCycle. This excellent scheme manages to recycle waste, which would otherwise end up in landfill. Schools, youth groups, businesses and organisations across the UK can all get involved, and this is a perfect way to raise awareness of the importance of taking care of the environment, whilst raising money for schools, charities and non-profit organisations.
Each Danone Activia, Shape and Actimel yogurt pot and bottle that is collected and sent back to TerraCycle, two points is earned which can be redeemed for a two pence contribution to the school or charity of the collector’s choice. So far the programme has raised over £11,000 for worthy UK schools, charities and non-profit organisations.
TerraCycle uses the waste yogurt container packaging material to make a wide range of recycled generic plastic products such as:-

Virginie Guise, Senior Brand Manager from Activia, comments: “Activia is delighted that our consumers have saved over 500,000 empty yogurt pots from UK landfill. The Activia Yogurt Brigade offers consumers a way to recycle and upcycle their used Danone Activia, Shape and Actimel pots & bottles. We encourage schools, businesses and individuals who love Danone Activia, Actimel and Shape products to set up a collection point and start their own Activia Yogurt Brigade and help us reach the next milestone of saving 1,000,000 million yogurt pots from UK landfill.”
Chris Baker, General Manager of TerraCycle UK added: “The Activia Yogurt Brigade is environmentally and socially beneficial in many ways. The programme helps to teach both young children and adults the importance of recycling and reusing, and empowers them to make a difference in their own future. We are delighted that Activia has extended the programme and its commitment to helping save as many yogurt containers from UK landfill as possible.”
