Becta Show and Tell

Recently I was invited along to the Becta Show and Tell event at Grays Infant and Nursery School in Newhaven.  Christine Terrey the headmistress gave a fantastic ‘Show and Tell’ event, which was interactive and informative to the assembled group of parents and invited guests.  Check out the video to see and hear more about the event.

For me, the most interesting eco part was the e-portfolios, which each child will create, personalise and then carry forward with them throughout their school life, which means you will have a digital record of your childs work which has contributions from the child, school and home and the eco win it saves the old paper trail…  For each of my three I have boxes of old books, pictures etc that the kids have done over the years at school that I have kept, but believe me if I could swap it all for a digital profile, I would.

Other great things that came out of the event was the fact that they are making the most of the technology available and are helping families who do not have internet connection by investing in 3g enable netbooks which they let the children take home each week and during the holidays.  They are also helping parents who may not have any techie skills by running workshops for them which gives them the basic skills to help and enjoy digital learning with their children.

By using the learning platform the teachers are able to communicate with parents and children even on snow days!  The learning platforms are all held in a secure platform that can only be accessed through password controls and because they are dealing with children in the 3-7 years age group they use icon login, which enables the little ones to join in rather than exclude which is a huge positive.

Also because the system is global, they can collaborate with other UK and international schools using the same learning platform which helps form cultural bonds and appreciation from a young age.
