British Food Fortnight: Hawkshead Relish
If you have ever been to Hawkshead in The Lake District, you will undoubtedly have visited the wonderful Hawkshead Relish Company, a family run business making delicious, award winning preserves, pickles, chutneys, jams and marmalades. The company’s cooking methods are traditional – products are hand made in small batches and they use no additives, colourings or artificial flavourings.
I often visit The Lake District on holiday and always make sure I visit Hawkshead just so that I can stock up with my favourite mustards and relishes! If you can’t visit the shop, products can be bought from their online shop or you could check the stockist page to find your local supplier.
I have tried many of Hawkshead Relish’s fantastic products over the years. Here are just a few of my favourites:
1. Red Onion Marmalade with Balsamic Vinegar (£3.50) – delicious in sandwiches and perfect for serving with cheese. This is Hawkshead Relish’s top seller.
2. Chillililli (£3.80) – absolutely delicious. Piccilli with added chilli, a must for all chilli lovers!
3. Hawkshead Relish (£2.50) – We use this all the time in our house. It’s very versatile and I always add it chillis, pasta sauces, casseroles – most things really!
4. Indian Capsicum Pickle (£3.50) – Sweet peppers mixed with home roasted spices and herbs. I like to eat this with jacket potatoes – perfect for a warming autumn lunch.
