DIYcouture makes how-to books that enable people to sew their own clothes. The books are a 21st century alternative to traditional sewing patterns. They use colourful diagrams and photographs to guide novices through the making process.

DIYcouture’s books make high-fashion affordable and affordable fashion non-exploitative. With the ability to make their own clothing, people have a real affordable alternative to buying unethical garments on the high street.

DIYcouture also inspires people to slow down – to take the time to make a garment that is precious and long-lasting, rather than comfort shop for almost disposable items which add to the UK’s increasing piles of landfill.

DIYcouture’s books are a celebration of craft, creativity and the beauty of hands that make. They are to be released monthly for a year, beginning in December 2009. Each book retails at £9.00 and helps the reader to make one garment. Subscriptions of three, five and ten months are also available, offering discounted prices. The books are 64 pages long, in full colour, printed in the UK on recycled paper.
