Who are you and what is your position?

I am Vicky Ewbank, a homoeopath, nutritional advisor, Living Foods Coach and the co-founder of Live Native with my partner Ian Ryder. We produce a range of vegan organic living skin care, all hand made on the Isle of Skye.

The reason for starting the company?

When I became a raw vegan I realised that there wasn’t much choice in ‘living’ skin care, in fact none at all at the time. Having made a conscious choice to lighten my diet and cleanse my body with only fresh, living, vegan foods, I couldn’t then use ‘dead’ moisturisers. In fact my skin soon began to reject the products I was then using – even though they were still very healthy choices! So I began to make my own Skin Foods from the highest quality, living and organic ingredients I could find. It was after using my own moisturisers for a couple of years and feeling how soft and healthy my own skin had become that Ian and I decided to set up Live Native (it was actually Ian’s idea – something I remember to point out when we feel overwhelmed by the amount of work that is involved)!How long have you been in business?

We officially launched Live Native in April 2008, but had been working to develop the brand and Skin Foods since January 2007.

Tell us about your products?

Live Native produces a range of 13 premium quality hand made Organic Skin Foods (cold blended skin care) using natures most proven, effective and living moisturising agents. Each of the range has been individually scented with exotic aroma therapeutic essential oils, chosen exclusively to compliment our deeply nourishing and cleanly absorbing moisturising Skin Foods for men, women and children, mum’s and babies.

Live Native is a unique skin care concept inspired by the life-loving ideals shared by all vegan, organic and raw-food led lifestyles. All ingredients in the premium quality range of enzym active moisturisers and remedial balms, as well as our cleanser, toner, deodorants, sex lubricant and Spa products are refined or unpasturised, and sourced specifically for their raw or low temperature extraction and processing methods.

Heat-free raw blending ensures that nature’s store of naturally ocurring enzymes, phytonutrients, antioxidants, EFA’s and bio-active plant phytochemicals remain in tact.

No animal products (or testing). mineral oils, hydrogenated oils, colourings, phthalates, preservatives, parabens, petroleum by-products, alcohol or unnatural stabilizers are used in any Live Native product.

What is your favourite green luxury item?

My Merino wool base layers – essential for life on Skye! Now I have discovered how warm, soft and comfortable Merino wool is, as well as the low environmental impact it has, I wouldn’t go back to using synthetics…vegan or not. Some things nature just does better!

What is your top green tip?

Learn to forage for wild food, it is much more nutritionally dense than farmed food, organic, and spares any concern for food miles! Start with a copy of Food for Free by Richard Mabey, and be brave enough to pick some nettles for nettle soup.

What do you do to relax?

Run in the forest, walk the dogs, play piano and sing, read…and curl up on the couch with Ian and the dogs to watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer!
