FreeFrom Awards 2010

I have been invited along to the FreeFrom Awards, which are to be held on the 21st April 2010.  This is a subject close to my heart, years ago when my middle son, now 13 years was a baby and toddler he had many allergies and food intolerances, which meant shopping and cooking for him was a nightmare!  So to see so many advances made in this area over the years is very encouraging!

From sheep’s milk ice cream, gluten-free syrup sponge and freefrom fusilli with amaranth to gluten-free fish fingers washed down with a gluten-free glass of beer, nearly 200 freefrom products have made it onto a very long ‘shortlist’ for the FreeFrom Food Awards 2010 – some indication of the spectacular growth seen in this sector of the food industry in recent years.

Freefrom foods are growing in popularity with growing demand from people are either intolerant or allergic to certain foods, particularly wheat, gluten, yeast and lactose.

Once a very niche marketplace, now there are now 100s of products available – from small, bespoke companies, right up to the major grocery chains’ own brands.

The FreeFrom Food Awards illustrates the growth and diversity of the market.

Over 100 shortlisted entrants have been named and on April 21^st the Awards event in London will reveal the winners in each category.

Companies/Products on the shortlist  include: Against the Grain, Delamere Dairy, B’Nice, Beiker, Doves Farm, GFree, Clive’s Pies, Barkat, Asda, Baker’s Delight, Droppa & Droppa, Intolerable Foods, Billy Goat, Coop, Orgran and St Peter’s brewery to name a few.
