*What’s On In The World Of Green This Season*
With the Christmas season a few weeks away now it seems to be a good time to update you all on the upcoming green Christmas fairs, eco fetes and gatherings this month and next. If you’re like me and find the High Street slightly souless and far too hectic in the run up to Christmas try searching out a local green Christmas event near you where you can buy from independent, handmade and green traders.
The one thing I love when I visit these sort of events is the sheer variety of stallholders exhibiting. You may get an international charity selling sponsored goat gifts and farm tools next to crafters who have refashioned reclaimed fabrics into wonderful recycled creations next to beautiful willow sculptures and woodland crafts. It’s often a great way to spend a wintery afternoon and one I’d recommend to all of you looking for gifts that make a difference this Christmas.
To kick off the round up of seasonal fare I’m organising GreenFinder’s third Green Christmas Fair in Leamington on Saturday 12th December, 11-3. There will be green and ethical stalls along with refreshments, Dr Bike and a clothes swap. Green Santa and his elves will putting in an appearance too. More details here.
In Birmingham the local Friends of the Earth group are holding a Green Christmas Fayre on Saturday 19th December at the Exchange Building in Mosely from 11 till 4 and just a few miles down the road in Solihull Fat Fluffs the rabbit rescue centre is hosting a festive fundraiser on Saturday 12th December, 12-5.
In Brighton there will be a Jingle Bells and Eco Tales event on 13th December, 11-4 at the Old Gas Works opposite the Brighton Marina. Green Santa will have his own green living grotto and there will also be carol singers, speakers and an array of stalls for all the family.
If your a Londoner pop down to The Eco Design Fair this weekend (28th & 29th Nov) Originally founded in 2004 by Textile Designer Louise Kamara, the Eco Design Fair is an annual Christmas event with the aim of encouraging direct trade between the public and designer makers – all of whom focus on environmentally friendly production methods and/or fair trade principles. The Eco Design Fair will take place at the Old Trueman Brewery, London E1.
