Testosterone is magic stuff. It helps maintain bone and muscle health as revs up your sex drive and your overall energy levels. Despite popular misconception, women also produce testosterone but only need minute levels in order to stay healthy. Men, however, can suffer when their testosterone levels drop. According to some researches testosterone levels may influence death in men.
It’s always best to raise the levels of a bodily chemical as naturally as possible. Although synthetic testosterone is available, there are side effects. Taking testosterone injections are also illegal in many organized sports. There are some easy, natural ways for men to raise their testosterone levels.
Never Binge Drink
Binge drinking or drinking a tremendous amount of alcohol in one night or over a weekend will make your testosterone levels crash. Alcohol may give feelings of being aroused, confident or brimming with machismo, but these feelings are false. More than three drinks a night causes men’s testosterone levels to drop.
Do More Weight Bearing Exercises
Weight-bearing exercises help tell the body that more testosterone need to be made in order to build more muscle in order to perform the weight-bearing exercises. They also have additional benefits such as making you burn fat and keep your bones strong. Weight-bearing exercises include push-ups, squats, lunges, weightlifting, jogging and dancing.
Have More Orgasms
Although having more sex gives you a workout that can help increase muscle mass and stamina, not everyone has access to a sexual partner. Sexual arousal and orgasm stimulates the body’s production of oxytocin, a natural pain-killer and endorphin hormones, which helps promote a feeling of well-being. When these two chemicals are released, the body makes more testosterone.
Reduce Estrogen Production
Male bodies also make estrogen, the “female hormone.” But sometimes in illnesses or through bad diet choices, male bodies make more estrogen than is needed. The estrogen then suppresses testosterone production. Eat less soy products, including soy protein muscle-building powders, because soy can stimulate estrogen production. Instead, eat more vegetables like turnips, radishes, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower. If you need protein supplements, try non-soy based alternatives.
Eat More Essential Fatty Acids
Essential fatty acids or EFAs can help the body make more testosterone. They are found in foods like salmon, peanuts, olives, avocadoes, canola oil, flaxseed and flaxseed oil. Although EFA supplements can be purchased, they are often expensive and are not as fun to eat as food sources.
Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep can help you be less stressed. When the body is stressed, it makes a chemical called cortisol. This helps the body prepare to fight or run away, but high levels of cortisol can wear down the body and lower testosterone production. The good news is that by exercising regularly, drinking sensibly or not at all and having an orgasm can help your body fall asleep and stay asleep for several hours.
