Holidaying in Britain this Summer – Then head to Tate St Ives, Cornwall

tate st ivesTate St Ives summer season of exhibitions presents seven autonomous but complementary one room displays by seven international artists and makers.  The exhibition shows a number of highly-acclaimed contemporary artists alongside major figures integral to British and international modernism – Alfred Wallis/Lucie Rie/Barbara Hepworth/Laurence Weiner/Carol Bove/Bojan Sarcevic/Katy Moran.

Whilst at Tate St Ives, visitors can not only take in world class art but enjoy the shop, which sells a range of books, gifts, postcards and greeting cards, as well as jewellery, pottery and china produced by local designer-makers, and the Tate St Ives Café.

The newly-designed café, with stunning views across Porthmeor Beach, the harbour and the old town of St Ives, offers visitors the chance to sample some of the finest local produce.  Highlights from the menu include; Tregannou Farm asparagus salad with broad beans, peas, red onions and Nantarrow Cheese (£8.95), a sandwich with Newlyn Harbour hand-picked white crabmeat with crab mayonnaise (£7.70), and a cheese plate of local stars such as Cornish Yarg, Saint Endellion and Cornish Blue, with oat biscuits and pear chutney (£6.95).

The wine list also features Cornish wines, including 2007 Camel Valley Bacchus from the Camel Valley Vineyard in Bodmin – a family-run winery that has won several awards, including Best English Sparkling wine in the English and Welsh Wine of the Year competition 2007 and 2008.
