The Energy Saving Trust is a non-profit organisation that provides free and impartial advice on ways to stop wasting energy and money. An amazing website full of information and resources, it has a number of services that can fulfill every need; from clever tips designed to make you think to online tools.

Their website includes some of the following sections:

1. Stop Wasting Energy and Cut Your Bills

You can find a variety of information on ways to: stop wasting energy and water; reduce, reuse, and recycle; generate your own electricity; and switch to paperless billing.

Here’s a good tip from this section: A dripping hot water tap wastes energy; In one week, it wastes enough hot water to fill half a bath, so fix leaking taps and make sure they’re fully turned off!

2. Home Improvements and Products

This section includes an index of energy efficient products, home insulation and glazing, heating and hot water, and energy efficient lighting. You can also learn out more about recommended retailers, televisions, and home appliances that are more efficient and can save you more in the long run.

3. Green Ambassadors

Check out their inspiring real-life examples of individuals who are doing what they can to combat climate change. As Stefanie from Birmingham said, “It makes me feel good knowing that I am helping the environment, and I also like knowing that I don’t use resources that I don’t need.”

4. Green Communities

An initiative that “aims to support, facilitate and promote community based energy projects. The Green Communities programme will create a step change in our service for communities by offering an integrated package of advice, support and funding. It will build on elements of our advice and information service (Community Action for Energy) and local outreach (via the Energy Saving Trust advice centres) and will also include new community-related services.” Joining the network is free and gives community leaders the opportunity to access advice and support, training, expert consultations, conferences, funding, etc – all FREE of charge!

The Energy Savings Trust’s online tools include:

1. The Carbon Cutter

With this online tool, you can calculate your carbon footprint and get a personalized action plan to help fight climate change based on your lifestyle. All you need are your energy bills, annual mileage and MPG (if you drive a car).

2. Home Energy Check

In a few minutes you can complete a home energy check on their site which will show you how much energy you are using and where you can save money in your home.

Their database contains details of hundreds of energy saving grants and discounts, including those from the government and energy suppliers. By entering your details, customers can find out which ones are best and how to apply. The Energy Saving Trust advisers can also help you identify the best grants and discounts for you.
