Recycling Your Old Wardrobe
Whenever you make the decision to replace a piece of furniture with a new or more modern piece you will often have the difficult problem of offloading or finding a new use for the old piece. More and more people are replacing their free standing wardrobes with wardrobes with sliding doors. Unfortunately wardrobes can be a particularly difficult piece of furniture to find a new use for. Here are a few suggestions:
Find a New Place for it in Your Home
This is the obvious thing to do with an old piece of furniture. If you have a spare or guest bedroom and have room in there for a wardrobe it could be a great idea to keep hold of it. You never know when you might need more storage space for clothes or things from around the home. It doesn’t even need to be in your home, you could use it to store tools in a garage or shed.
Reuse Parts of it
Just because you no longer want the wardrobe doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t use some of the parts of it. If your wardrobe has drawers these can easily be reused. You could use them for storage under your bed or even in another wardrobe or cupboard.
Build Something With the Wood
If you’re into your DIY why not use the wood from the wardrobe to build something else? With a little imagination you could easily build shelves, storage boxes or basically anything else you can think of.
Sell it or Give it Away
If you have any friends or family doing up their home or moving home in the near future ask them if they would have any use for it. You’d be surprised how many people will jump at the chance to take a nice piece of furniture off your hands. If you don’t know anyone you could consider listing the piece as free to a good home in the local paper or on any number of websites. If you think it’s worth something you could even try selling it through eBay. Something that you no longer want could easily be exactly what someone else is looking for.
Whatever you decide to do with your old wardrobe, anything is much better than just discarding it. Try and make the best use of it that you can rather than it ending up in landfill.
