UK energy company E.ON is launching a crowdsourcing online community project, E.ON Innovation, in the search for innovative ideas surrounding energy saving products and services in a bid to raise awareness about energy efficiency. In conjunction with their Channel 4 series Home of the Future that airs on Sunday evenings at 7pm, E.ON is offering one lucky overall winner the chance to win a £10,000 home energy makeover.
Crowdsourcing is a great way to pool knowledge and ideas about green issues, and the power of the people can certainly help to assist in solving problems regarding energy efficiency.
If you have a great idea that could transform energy use in the future, why not take part and submit your proposal to E.ON. 5 different challenges will be set during the next few weeks. These will be based on themes including rest, work, play, food and wellbeing. The best idea for each challenge will win a £2,000 home energy makeover, with one person’s idea receiving a ‘Shining Star’ award and the £10,000 home energy makeover. There is also the exciting prospect of seeing your idea transformed into reality and taken into production by E.ON, subject to research and development and a commercial assessment of the products/services.
To enter you must be resident in the UK (excluding the Channel Islands) and 18 years or older. The cutoff date for submitting your ideas is the 9th April 2012 at www.eon-innovation.com.
TGF will definitely be taking part in the online conversation on Twitter @talkingenergy using the hashtag #eoninnov. Join in and you can discuss and vote for what you think is the best idea. If you need further inspiration have a look at the Channel 4 series Home of the Future, www.homeofthefuture.tv and see how the Pereras, an ordinary family from Sheffield, transformed their lives with cutting-edge technology.

Anything that can help ensure a cleaner, safer, energy efficient future for the planet is worth doing, so go to www.eon-innovation.com for more information, find out how you can get involved, and take up this worthwhile challenge to create the next generation of energy products and services.

There must be many people in my situation where a huge percentage of heat loss is generated by an expansive underfloor area. A vast amoubt of cold air is circulating underneath our feet and seriously cuts down internal warmth.
This is the biggest innovation pointer you will receive.
All that cracks on is the time worn cavity wall and loft insulation routine. Time to think out the box. My house with a 5 foot underground space is very workable to insert insulating boards between joists. Let me know what you think and maybe you could help me! Edward
