Natural Living v. Nasties: Shampoo

As well as artificial fragrances and parabens (chemical preservatives), most shampoos contain either sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium laureth sulphate (SLS). These can be irritating to the skin, especially for those with sensitive skin or eczema. Natural shampoos are SLS free and usually use essential oils to fragrance them. They also use natural foaming agents, making them far more gentle. You may find that you don’t get quite as many ‘bubbles’ when you lather your hair with a natural shampoo, but who wants lots of chemical bubbles anyway! In my experience, natural shampoos are lovely to use as they smell gorgeous and they leave your hair looking healthy and shiny.

Barefoot Botanicals S.O.S. Intensive Dry Scalp Shampoo is one of my favourite natural shampoos. It’s very gentle and is suitable for those with dry, sensitive scalps or with dandruff. It can even be used by those suffering from eczema or psoriasis. It’s gentle enough for the whole family to use and it smells fantastic. S.O.S Intensive Care Shampoo costs £12.95 for 200ml and can be bought direct from Barefoot Botanicals.

Green People Limited Edition Shampoo and Shower is a men’s 2-in-1 shampoo and shower gel. It contains organic mandarin, orange and lemon essentials oils and has a wonderful citrus aroma so it’s perfect for morning showers. Although designed for men, I reviewed this in April and used it myself as a normal shampoo. I was very impressed by it. You can read my review here. Limited Edition Shampoo and Shower is available from Green People and costs £9.95 for 150ml or £6.95 for a 50ml travel size.

Weleda have a great range of very reasonably priced natural hair care products. Their Rosemary and Ginger Shampoo is formulated for normal to dry hair and contains biodegradeable plant based cleansers to cleanse the hair gently without any chemical build-up and without stripping the hair of its natural oils. Rosemary and Ginger shampoo costs £7.95 for a 250ml bottle and is available from Weleda.

MENS FACIAL MOISTURISER FROM TREVARNO

So many glorious products to choose from this wonderful company. But I have decided today to feature one for the men. I have to say my hubby is more obsessed with creams and potions than I am so I will probably invest in a tub of this as part of his birthday pressie.
