Adding a throw to an old chair or sofa is a way of giving it a new lease of life, plus it will save you some money. You can ring the changes with your colour scheme more often or have winter and summer throws to reflect the seasons. It’s also a way of adding a little extra warmth to the bed at night.

This lovely throw is made from reclaimed wool yarn. It’s made in Scotland, by a small family business, with a colour palette that’s a mix of heather and muted greens. Fair Trade 100% Silk Quilt

Am looking for a throw for my bed for summer and I think I have fallen in lust for this luxurious 100% silk quilt by Biome Lifestyle.

Made by a family firm in Hanoi, it has been fairly traded. The quilts are reversible and are a decent size (165 x 165cm). You could use it as a throw or a blanket for snuggling under on the sofa…if you ever get the chance!

I have a couple of wedding anniversaries coming up in our family soon, as well as a wedding to go to in the summer, so I have been keeping a look out for some unusual and stylish gifts which are also ethical and eco-friendly. I was very excited to discover Biome Lifestyle, which has a wonderful selection of absolutely gorgeous eco home gifts.

I love this very stylish Enlaira Recycled Glass Vase, available in either black and pink or black and white (both costing £70). The vases are made from 100% post-consumer recycled glass. They are brought to the UK by sea-freight from Spain, which minimises carbon emissions during transportation.

If you’re looking for a smaller, quirkier present, you’ll love these Recycled Glass Egg Cups. A stylish alternative to traditional egg cups, they would look wonderful on any breakfast table. The egg cups are made from 100% post-consumer recycled glass, and cost just £1.50 each. I will definitely be buying a few sets of these to give as presents this year.

My final choice is another stunning vase, the beautiful Bowler Sustainable Vine Vase(£55). It’s so unusual and would look fantastic in any home, mixing well with either contemporary or traditional decor. The Bowler vase is handmade in the Philippines using jungle vine sourced from ethical growers.
