TerraCycle has partnered with Kenco to launch the Coffee Packaging Brigade, a new recycling scheme for consumers to recycle all brands of coffee packaging waste such as:

*Coffee Refill Bags

*Coffee Bean Bags

*Single Serving Coffee Sachets

*Coffee Jar Lids

Unlike TerraCycle’s other programmes, the aim is to use public locations across the UK to act as hub locations and house a collection box for local communities to drop their coffee packaging waste to.

The Coffee Packaging Brigade is also looking for public locations across the UK to house a permanent collection box, where local communities can drop off their waste coffee packaging.

An initial 100 slots across the UK will be available on the Coffee Packaging Brigade with TerraCycle asking for those interested in recycling to find a local public location to house the provided collection box and apply for a space. The locations should be widely accessible by the local population and will be listed on the TerraCycle website and promoted in terms of a local media public relations campaign encouraging local people to participate. Visitors will be able to find their nearest collection box location to drop their coffee packaging off to on the Coffee Packaging Brigade web page:

All the coffee packaging saved will also raise money for schools, charities or non-profit organisations. Each Coffee Packaging Brigade locations beneficiary will be chosen by the administrator who finds the location to house the box maintains it on site and sends back the shipments to TerraCycle.

Stephanie Okell, Brand Manager for Kenco comments: “Unfortunately the majority of waste coffee packaging ends up in landfill as local councils simply don’t have the infrastructure to recycle mixed plastics.  Kenco is proud to partner with TerraCycle to offer a solution to the problem in the form of the new Coffee Packaging Brigade and we hope local communities get behind the scheme to not only save as much coffee packaging waste from landfill as possible but also to raise money for worthy schools, charities and non-profit organisations.”

Chris Baker, General Manager of TerraCycle UK adds:  “We are delighted to partner with Kenco to launch the new Coffee Packaging Brigade and offer a UK recycling solution for any brand of coffee refill bags, coffee bean bags, single serving coffee sachets and coffee jar lids for the first time.   This method of collecting en mass at public locations is a first for TerraCycle in the UK and we are confident that the public will get behind the scheme and help us to save a considerable amount of coffee packaging waste from ending up in landfill.”
