What is it?
Eaga ShowerSmart – a nifty device to make your shower run more efficiently, saving money by reducing the amount of water you use.  Each household is entitled to one of these for free.
Who is reviewing it?
Ellie and her husband.
In use

The Eaga ShowerSmart comes with a bag for you to test your shower efficiency to start with – you run the shower for 5 seconds into the bag, and if the volume of water comes over the line on the bag, then you will benefit from the ShowerSmart. If not, your shower is already efficient. When I tested our shower it came to EXACTLY on the line, but in the interests of scientific enquiry, I decided to give it a try.
It comes with simple instructions for installation, and it took just seconds to unscrew the shower hose, fit the ShowerSmart, then re-attach the hose. You are warned that the first time you run the shower it might leak slightly at the site, before the washers swell up to block the drips, which is exactly what happened. However, after that it ran well and didn’t leak at all.
As far as I can tell, the ShowerSmart seems to work by whirling the water round, to make the overall pressure lower. The gizmo sometimes makes a slight “whooshing” noise just after you switch the shower off, but otherwise you wouldn’t really be aware of its presence.
That said, the problem for us was that our shower already had quite low flow, and making it more “efficient” meant making having a shower into really quite a miserable experience. It was very hard to wash all the shampoo out of my hair (admittedly I probably use too much), and the water really didn’t flow well out of our shower at all.But as I said, our shower was just on the borderline for use anyway. I’m afraid in the end we removed it again – this particular eco-gadget is not for us.
Any negatives?

See above.
Overall

The ShowerSmart is very easy to install and works well to reduce the flow of your shower – we just discovered we don’t want our flow reduced that much! One for people with better plumbing, perhaps…
