TGF Rated Review: Maclaren Nurturing Gift Set

A Maclaren “Nurturing gift set” for baby.  I had no idea Maclaren did anything but pushchairs so was intrigued to discover they did a range of organic products for mums and babies.  The gift set comprises a turtle toy made from organic cotton, Cocooning Massage Oil, a bar of Soap and a bottle of Comforting Room Mist.

This is a very attractive set in a gift box. Unfortunately the Room Mist bottle had leaked slightly in transit, so everything smelled of lavender and mandarin, but no damage was done (and the smell is lovely!). The toy is very attractive – quite muted colours, with a velcro strap to allow it to be attched to cots, pushchairs etc. It’s one of those ones that you pull down and it vibrates its way back up the string. My son is too young to really be interested in it yet, but my 2 1/2 year old daughter quite fancied taking it off to add to her collection!

The soap (jojoba, aloe and lavender) smells lovely and lathers nicely. The room spray (lavender, chamomile and mandarin) was also pleasant. The idea is that you spray it round your child at home when they are happy and settled, then take it with you to spray near them when they’re out, so they smell something they associate with being happy, and thus settle quickly. I’m not convinced it had much effect, but was a nice way to make the changing room in the local garden centre smell a bit better! I think you’d need a smaller bottle if you wanted to carry one around with you.

Finally, the massage oil (lavender, mandarin and geranium) was really very good – the blend of oils smells divine, and it was perfect for a lovely long settling massage for a colicky baby. The base oils are Jojoba, Olive and sunflower, and it was really wonderful to massage into my baby’s skin, leaving it moisturised and smooth but not too slippery.

I thought this was a lovely gift set, and a bit unusual in what it offered – not the usual bath and moisturiser set. I would buy this for someone else, even if it was just for the massage oil alone.
