TGF Rated Review: Mr Organic Tomato Products

What is it? Mr Organic believe in making high quality organic products that are good value for money and as affordable as possible. Based in Italy, the family-based business produces a range of tomato-based products and sauces, as well as a range of canned beans.

Mr Organic are also working with the farm next door to their factory. The farm trains and employs people with disabilities to work there, and Mr Organic are providing them with the resources and expertise to make the farm completely organic. Once it is organic-certified, the farm will be able to provide produce for Mr Organic to use in their products.

Who is testing it? Me, my husband and our two daughters.

In Use: We tested three Mr Organic products: Tomato Ketchup, Passata Rustica and Olives and Capers Puttanesca Tomato Sauce. All three products use simple, good quality ingredients and taste delicious. The Passata Rustica was my favourite as it’s so versatile. It lives up to its rustic name – it’s almost like very finely chopped tomatoes, rather than a smooth passata. We used ours to make a sausage casserole and it really added to the flavour, making it rich and tomatoey and giving it a lovely red colour. I would defeinitely use this again as it would be a great base for tomato sauces and soups.

The Puttanesca sauce is ideal to keep in your cupboard for times when you need a quick supper. The sauce is lovely and thick and the olives and the capers give it a delicious  flavour. There are several other sauces and they sound just as good. I especially like the look of the Boscaiola Con Porcini Sauce. Another product I will definitely be using again is the ketchup. It’s very light and fresh, not at all thick and gloopy like some ketchups, and it tastes great. The onions and spices give it a slight tang which I loved. Perfect with chips!

All Mr Organic come in recyclable glass jars or cans and the packaging is simple and eye-catching. My daughters loved the big smiley face on the front of all the jars!

Price and Availability: Most Mr Organic products can be bought on-line from Goodness Direct. The ketchup costs £1.92 for a 480g bottle, the Passata Rustica costs £1.41 for a 690g bottle and the Olives and Capers Puttanesca Tomato Sauce costs £1.90 for 350g jar. Some Mr Organic products can also be bought from  Holos Foods and Abel and Cole.

Overall: Delicous products from a great company. They are good value for money and there’s a good range of products to choose from. Definitely give Mr Organic a try!
