TGF Rated Review: Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion

What is it? Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion is a 100% natural skin treatment developed in America. It is dermatology tested and free from colours, fragrance, petrochemicals and parabens.  Unlike ordinary moisturisers, Skin MD Natural is a shielding lotion. It bonds with the skin and is designed to provide a protective shield, helping reduce moisture loss from the deeper layers of the skin. This promotes skin repair and encourages natural skin healing. As well as repairing dry skin, Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It can be used on the face, hands or body and is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive.

Who is testing it?: Me. I have eczema on my hands and wrists which is particularly bad in cold winter weather, so I was really keen to give this a try.

In Use: This is extremely pleasant and very easy to use. The Shielding Lotion comes in a small flip-top bottle which makes it easy to carry around with you and also very easy to dispense just the right amount quickly. The lotion is really light and feels very different to other hand creams I have used. It is not at all sticky or greasy. Just a small amount was enough to cover my hands and it absorbed quickly. The immediate effect is very noticeable. My hands looked softer and felt really smooth. It didn’t immediately relieve my dry skin though and my hands still felt quite irritated to start with. I needed to reapply it very regularly – every couple of hours. This is definitely a long-term solution and I will continue using the lotion on my hands.

The Shielding Lotion can be used on the body and the face too.  Knowing the way the lotion works in providing a protective shield to the skin, I have also been using this regularly on my face. I apply it once a day which is enough if you don’t have a specific skin problem. It leaves my face feeling very smooth and it’s good to think that it may be protecting my skin from the elements, as I am outdoors a lot and always feel that my skin gets a bit ‘weather-beaten’.

Any negatives: For the Sheilding Lotion to work effectively, you have to use it very regularly, so you really do need to be dedicated to using this. I had to make sure I took mine with me everywhere. It’s definitely worth buying two so you can keep one in a bag.

Overall: This is not a quick-fix solution for dry skin and eczema. Some of the testimonials on the Skin MD Natural information leaflets show that the Shielding Lotion can really help reduce skin problems but you do have to use it regularly and over a long period of time. Although I still have eczema on my hands after using this, I can see that their condition has improved and I am going to continue using the Shielding Lotion as I am sure it has made a difference. If you suffer from eczema or dry skin, it’s well worth giving this a try as it’s natural and far gentler on the skin than traditional steroid creams.
