Using renewable energy in your home

good_energy-logoOne way to do your bit for the planet, without a lot of effort on your part, is to sign up to a renewable energy supplier.  Good Energy buy only electricity that is generated by wind, water or sunlight and supply it to your home. If you are producing your own energy from renewable sources and have a surplus to sell, they will buy it from you.  In fact, they will pay you 10p per unit produced even if you use that unit in your own home.

As well as supplying electicity, you can also buy gas from them.  Currently, it isn’t possible to supply renewable gas as the mains gas supply network can’t support it, so Good Energy have come up with an interesting way of making their gas more environmentally friendly. They will pay 4.5p to owners of solar thermal panels for every unit of heat generated by the panels, so encouraging people to invest in renewable heat.

To make signing up easy, you can do this either by phone or online and the rest will be done for you.  Good Energy are more expensive than the big companies who supply the bulk of our energy, but being a small independent company, they are able to provide a service without resorting to large call centres.
