I’m Lynsey, 31 (even though my blog tells fibs and says I’m 30!) I’m married to a lovely man called Matt and we have 2 young children, Anya who is 5 and Tara who is 2 and we live in North West England. I’m a WAHM and I run 2 professional blogs – Cuteable which celebrates cute, mostly handmade goodies and ACEO Showcase which is new and, erm, showcases ACEO’s! I also have a personal blog Swirlythoughts which documents my daily life and the crafty things I make for my business Swirlyarts. Phew, it sounds like a lot doesn’t it! I am also an avid thrifter and can often be found rummaging through charity shops, car boot and jumble sales. I also use Freecycle a lot both to acquire ‘new’ things and to get rid of things we no longer need.
The vast majority of the crafty things I make for my various online shops also make use of things that people normally throw away. I turn clean cardboard packaging into the backing for my gift tags and I use a wide range of papers for the front of the tags, from security envelopes to damaged books that charity shops can’t sell, to discarded paint chip cards that would have ended up in landfill. I use thrifted fabrics to make my chicken doorstops, pincushions and peg bags. I have even used clean egg cartons to make cute yet functional sewing boxes! I harbour a wish to one day have everything in my shops be made from recycled/upcycled or repurposed materials – I think that is a fairly good wish to have!
I am known as the recycler in my family and I often come home from my parents house with things that can’t be recycled in their area but can be in ours. My dad is a dustman and often saves boxes of books for me that have been thrown out – I make sure I re-use them!
So that is me and I hope you have found what I said to be interesting. I’m looking forward to writing monthly posts on here featuring things I have found made from recycled/repurposed materials.
