Zero Waste Week

This September the third annual zero waste week will be taking place. The idea is to reduce your waste and whilst getting to zero waste would be absolutely fantastic, obviously any reduction will help.
National Zero Waste Week starts on 6th September 2010. This year’s theme is called ‘Cooking for Victory’. In the UK, we throw away a horrifying 8.3 million tonnes of food and drink every year. Most of this is avoidable and could have been eaten if we had planned, stored and managed it better. This amount of food waste costs the average family in Britain £50 per month.
My Zero Waste are promoting the week long challenge and are encouraging people to sign up to reduction in their waste. Not only can you feel good about reducing your waste and helping the environment, but you could win one of the two great prizes up for grabs: a £50 LUSH voucher and £50 Natural Collection voucher. The site has lots of ideas and tips for reducing food and other waste, plus you can help out by adding your own ideas.
I’ve decided to take up the challenge , along with my family, and will be trying to reduce our waste, especially our food waste. You can follow my progress here on TGF during Zero Waste Week.
